Challenges Faced by Kabalagala Parish Kisasinzi Zone: A Call to Action

The Kabalagala Parish Kisasinzi Zone is facing a number of challenges that are affecting the health and well-being of its residents. The community is grappling with issues such as poor sanitation, lack of access to education, and gender-based violence. The drainage system is not well-constructed, which has led to an increase in cases of malaria and cholera. The community has only one shared toilet, which is not enough for the population. Many children are not in school because their mothers cannot afford the fees and the government school is far away.

The community has requested that a garbage collection center be gazetted for every 10 homes to help with sanitation and hygiene. They also wish to work with government structures to collect garbage since the new mechanisms of using private companies are not affordable for many homes. The drainage system needs to be cleaned and cleared out so that there is an easy flow of water during the rainy season. The trench is open and a danger to children, and available tools for cleaning the trench are not enough.

The community has requested support in getting a public address system that they can use to amplify their issues and call the community to action. Gender-based violence is also a major issue in the area, which has led to an increase in mental health issues among single mothers.

Climate change is exacerbating these challenges, as diseases such as malaria are spreading more easily through the drainage channels. The population is already disadvantaged, vulnerable, and underserved, and most likely to be negatively affected by these diseases since they have the least access to solutions such as hospitals that mitigate their outcomes.

It’s important that we take action to address these challenges and support the Kabalagala Parish Kisasinzi Zone community. We need to work together to improve sanitation, provide access to education, and address gender-based violence. By doing so, we can help ensure that everyone in this community has access to the resources they need to thrive.
